Volunteer of the Month!
We all know the ample amount of volunteer
work Charlie
Rodgers does, but equally as generous with her time is
Sue Rodgers. From Social to
Election, peeling potatoes or peeling labels, she is always
lending a helpful hand. Even when she's peeling wheels
this motorcycle momma is a true gem!! Thanks
Sue!

Reminder: please return ballots by Nov. 14 – Thank
You.
So many times we hear nothing but the bad about a person or community.
It’s about time that we had something good to say about Windjammer.
It is commendable how many people volunteer to do jobs that many
communities on the outside of our village have to pay to have done.
We have access to the waterway for boating and fishing and just
watching the boats and other watercraft go by and enjoy the company
of other residents.
We have a compound to store our boats, campers etc. Ask anyone
on the outside what is costs to store these items every month.
We have many social events put on by our volunteers during the year.
We have a great pool and a smaller pool for the little folks.
We have a picnic area which is kept clean and neat. Again our
volunteers clean this area in the spring each year.
We have an excellent library and sitting room for relaxing, reading
or putting a puzzle together.
We have a great exercise room with lots of machines to help us
keep fit.
We just had our annual yard sale which was a good way for our residents
to get together.
We should be thankful for all we Do
have.

Beautification
Adopt-a-Highway cleanup was done on Sept. 26. Trash along SC 179
was picked up from Hwy. 17 to the NC border. A big thank-you to
the following: Hugh Cotcamp, Jack Robinson, Jackie Andrews, Rick
Alvarez, and Jim Hennessy. 14 bags full x 15 lbs. each = 210 lbs.
Six people x 2 hours each = 12 work hours. Horry County was notified
of our pick-up. Thanks again, John Phalen
Compound
On Saturday, Oct. 17th from 9am until Noon, 33 people re-registered
their spots at the Compound, and 28 agreements and registrations
were submitted prior to Saturday. There are only about two spots
which need to be cleaned – which I think is great! We still
need a Compound Coordinator. Barbara Tanner
Election
Here is a description on how the Election Committee members do their
job. Ballots prepared and mailed to homeowners. When they are returned
to the Office, the Office Administrator puts those ballots in the
ballot box that are in the after-hours slot or mailbox. Those coming
in during office hours put their own in the box.. The box has two
locks. There is one key in the Office and the Committee Chairperson
has the other. This is done to assure security of ballots.
The Committee is comprised of Windjammer Village homeowners in
good standing. When the counting of the ballots is to begin, a time
is chosen after the POA office hours. The only people allowed in
the room to count ballots are the Election Committee members. No
one else is allowed – not the Office Manager nor any of the
Board members nor any Windjammer homeowner, except for the Election
Committee members.
The Office Administrator gives a list of those homeowners who are
not eligible to cast a vote to the Chairperson. The first thing
done is to go through the still-sealed envelopes to take out the
envelopes of those on this list. They are put aside. The committee
also pulls those envelopes with no return address.
The envelopes are then opened, ballots are removed, but remain
folded and the envelopes are discarded. No committee member knows
how a homeowner has voted. The members put themselves in teams of
two to start the count. The ballots are separated and then distributed
to each team. One member quietly gives the other the number of votes
for each question. The other member has a tally sheet and makes
a tick mark. After each group adds up their count, the ballots are
then given to another group so they can verify the other group’s
count. If the count is the same, the numbers are recorded on a final
tally sheet. If not, the ballots are then given to another team
to verify the count. Each team’s tally sheet is then added
together to get a total count for each question on each ballot.
The entire process from beginning to end can take between two and
three hours, sometimes longer. The committee members are to remain
in the room used for counting until all questions are counted and
verified. The members are asked by the chairperson not to divulge
the results to anyone including their spouses, and Windjammer Village
Board members until after the results are announced at the Board
meeting. No one knows the results of the election except for the
Election Committee. Jackie Andrews

Maintenance
Over the last month Maintenance has continued to handle
the routine duties that are required for the upkeep of the village
such as mowing all common areas, blowing the needles and leaves
around the circle entrances, clearing and filling brush containers,
as well as trimming and raking around the trash and recyclable containers
in compound. We had the drains around village cleared and made repairs
to asphalt on Lafayette Circle. The kiddy pool was patched; the
picnic area was cleaned up. The gazebo was swept out and the dock
was repaired in areas. Several equipment items were repaired and
prepared for usage. A few requests from beautification were completed.
This past week a bunch of concerns were rec’d, some emphasizing
past requests - these will be looked at and discussed. Andrew
Paulussen

The Social Committee held the annual yard sale in October. Everyone
seemed to think it was a success. There was lots of socializing
and eating. We served 80 hot dogs by 11am! We really appreciate
your help. The Clubhouse will be used all Saturdays in October and
we have one reservation for November. Be sure to remember Bingo
on Wednesday night at 7:30 at the Clubhouse. The committee will
be making the holiday plans the first of November. There will be
